Barbara Nelms

Assistant Board

Barbara Nelms is a passionate advocate for creating the industry’s future leaders. She works every day to foster a creative and inclusive environment for her team and peers. She is a creative technologist that takes her inquisitiveness and connections to problem solve with purpose and positivity. She uses her creativity and nerdy technical aptitude to bring value to her organization.

Barbara has been in the Telecommunications industry since 2009, starting her career as an Executive Assistant and Project Coordinator at Virgin Mobile USA. When she moved to Florida, she started her MSO career at Bright House Networks in Tampa, FL. In her most recent role as a Director, Strategy & Operations at Charter Communications, she is building out the training, engagement, communications and governance models for SDIT.

She has also been a Portfolio & Reporting Manager at Paramount + (Paramount Global), where she owned Lean Portfolio Management within the global PMO supporting cross-functional agile scrum teams with a focus on continuous improvement in reporting and intake planning. During her time with P+, the portfolio delivered a partnership with T-Mobile, converged with Showtime, and launched the app in Italy, Ireland, and the Nordics.

In her previous roles at Charter, Barbara supported the Cloud & Infrastructure, Mobile BSS/OSS, Mobile Release Management and product teams. The C&I team created the foundation for IaaS, CaaS and Edge Cloud services. As Sr. Program Manager, Mobile for Charter Communications, she oversaw project deployment for non-customer facing projects and the release coordination of all the Company’s mobile features and functionality, including customer experience, Mobile App, 5G rate plans, and external and internal communications. In her previous role at Charter, Barbara served as Lead Project Manager for the Wireless Technology Group, delivering the launch of Spectrum Mobile as a new line of business for Charter.

She joined Charter in 2017 through its acquisition of Bright House Networks, an MSO provider. There she worked with several teams including Software Development, Billing Operations, Procurement and Network Engineering. Prior to Bright House Networks, she was a project coordinator for the software development team at Virgin Mobile USA in San Ramon, CA for the CITO’s office.

Barbara was named WICT (Women in Cable Telecommunications) Rocky Mountain Chapter President for the 2021-2022 term and the 2023 Walk of Fame Leader to Watch. She has also held the office of Vice President, Board Operations Director and Director of Marketing & Communications at the Florida chapter. She has been involved in WICT since 2011. Her passion for developing future leaders shines through her volunteer service.

As an alumnus of the University of South Florida, Barbara earned a Master’s in Business Administration with a focus on Finance and Marketing Strategy as well as an undergraduate degree in Public Communications. She holds a PMP certification and is a passionate agile advocate. Barbara currently resides in the Denver metro area with her husband and four amazing children: 2 girls and 2 boys.
